Rational Emotive Therapy
"According to RET, our emotions result from our beliefs, interpretations and reactions to life events. A type of cognitive therapy, RET is based more on thinking and doing than with the expression of feelings. Founder Albert Ellis is known as the father of RET and the grandfather of cognitive-behavioral therapy."(Psychology Today). The idea of RET is to identify problematic ideas that are based on outdated or mistaken assumptions and replace them with more positive and reality-based perspectives.
This method has been important addition to my therapy approach and has helped clients to overcome unhealthy and limiting beliefs, feelings, and behaviors. Skill- teaching exercises are used in session and often suggested for homework.
